Microsoft's support for troubled Internet Explorer 4.0 users can be summed
up in four words: "Internet Explorer kanda problem."

No, it's not a typo. It's Swedish.

Microsoft engineers were scrambling on Wednesday to identify an error in IE4
that was redirecting confused users to its Swedish support page. The
problem, verified by ZD Net News and at PC Labs, occured when Online Support
is selected from the IE4's Help menu.

"It's frustrating," said independent consultant M. Jay Platt, who first
reported the problem to ZDNN. "When you need the help the most, you run into
another wall." Platt runs a software consulting firm in Portland, Oregon.

According to a Microsoft spokesperson, engineers at Microsoft are attempting
to fix the problem, which they attribute to a mistake in the Microsoft Web
site. "We expect the problem will be fixed soon, if it is not fixed
already," said Andrea Carlos, spokesperson for Microsoft.

Consultant Platt believes the problem is caused by IE4 incorrectly
identifying the user's language. "It is supposed to pick up what language
you are using," he said. "It is obviously not doing that."

Where's the Swedish Chef Muppet when you need him?

The Swedish support page can be found at
